Michigan Landlord Charged With Killing 2 Tenants Because They ‘Kept Him Up Late At Night’

Chad Reed, a 53-year-old Michigan landlord, was arrested and charged with killing 2 tenants because they “liked to party” and “kept him up late at night.” Per the police report, Reed turned himself in to authorities after admitting to killing the couple, identified as Joseph Soule, 34, and girlfriend Jaclyn Lepird, 31.

Law enforcement officials believe Reed killed the couple, who lived in an upstairs apartment of his home, on October 7 after a long disagreement turned into a verbal feud. Battle Creek police Detective Sgt. Joel Case says, “He’s claiming that Joey pulled a knife on him and in self-defense he drew a gun and shot and killed Joey. After seeing that, (Lepird) tried running from the residence, at which time he ended up shooting her as well.”

He later drove the truck to an abandoned garage, parked it, and left it there. Currently, the case is under investigation as Reed sits in lock up at the Calhoun County Jail with no bond.
