Michael Jordan Is Selling His Majority Stake In The Charlotte Hornets After 13 Years Of Ownership

NBA legend, Michael Jordan is planning to sell his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets after 13 years as majority owner. 

ESPN Senior NBA insider, Adrian Wojnarowski made the announcement on Twitter early Friday morning stating: “Michael Jordan is finalizing a sale of the Charlotte Hornets to a group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall, ending his 13-year run as majority owner, league sources told ESPN on Friday.” Sources also told Woj that Jordan is still expected to “keep a minority stake and a presence within the franchise.”

Michael Jordan became the first former NBA player to become the majority owner of a franchise back in 2010 when he made the purchase.

Jordan achieved tremendous success throughout his playing days. He won six NBA championships, all with the Chicago Bulls, capturing titles in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998. He was the Finals MVP in each of those championship-winning years. Jordan was known for his clutch performances and competitive spirit, earning the nickname “Air Jordan” for his acrobatic dunks and ability to seemingly defy gravity.

Aside from his championships, Jordan’s individual accolades are numerous. He won the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) award five times (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998). Jordan was also a 14-time NBA All-Star, earning MVP honors in three of those All-Star games. He was a 10-time scoring champion and holds the record for the highest career scoring average in NBA history, with 30.12 points per game.

After retiring from basketball in 1993, Jordan pursued a brief career in professional baseball before returning to the NBA in 1995. He played for the Washington Wizards for two seasons before retiring for the final time in 2003.
