Michael Blackson is usually filled with a whole bunch of lighthearted jokes but he’s switching gears to share his honest feelings about a serious situation.

The well-respected comedian recently weighed in on fellow entertainer Tory Lanez who has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. While most people feel like justice was served for the rap star who was trolled online over the traumatizing experience, others have expressed disappointment and frustration to see another Black man jailed. In an Instagram post shared with his 5.8 million followers, Blackson said he feels for both Meg and Tory.

“This is sad all the way around,” he said over a clip from an old Instagram Live with Tory Lanez. “I hope Meg is ok and hopefully she has forgiven him, at the same time it’s always sad to see one of us go to jail, especially for 10 yrs. I hope we learned from this and may God have mercy on all of Us.”

Of course, no one wants to see a friend spend a good portion of his life behind bars. But it serves as a reminder of the serious consequences one can face over their reckless actions which can have an ever lasting effect on someone else’s life.

As we previously reported, Megan Thee Stallion has spent nearly three years trying to convince the world that she had been shot in the foot by her then-friend in 2020 following a party at Kylie Jenner’s home. Megan initially lied and told officers that she stepped on glass not only to protect Tory but also out of fear that he or anyone else involved could have gotten hurt by the police that night. However, after a bunch of online trolling by fans and Tory Lanez himself, Megan finally spoke out to tell her truth. Still, that didn’t make people believe her since Lanez also maintained that he was innocent.

Though, things took a major turn last December, when Lanez was found guilty of the crime. He was found guilty of all three charges prosecutors had brought against him: assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, and negligent discharge of a gun for shooting the plaintiff. Still, he and his legal team argued that he was innocent.

But it wasn’t until this week that Lanez finally admitted and apologized for his actions during his sentencing hearing. In a direct message to Megan Thee Stallion, he said.

“If I could change it, I would, but I can’t,” he said. “Everything I did that night, I take full responsibility,” he’s quoted saying by court journalist Meghann Cuniff Lanez. “I truly am just trying to be a better person.” He said he still “cares about Megan [Thee Stallion” and called her “someone I still care for dearly to this day” regardless of what she may think of him.

“We both lost our mothers. We would sit there and drink, and drink until we got numb,” shared Lanez.“I said some very immature things that I shouldn’t have said.”

Following the sentence, his attorney Jose Baez – addressed reporters and said, “We’re extremely disappointed that Tory did not get the sentence that we had certainly hoped for. I think the sentence handed down was incredibly harsh. I have seen cases of vehicular homicide and other cases where there’s death and the person still gets less than 10 years,” Complex quotes.
