Miami Mayor Francis Suarez Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announced earlier today that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He started to experience symptoms after attending a Mar-a-Lago conference with the same Brazilian official who met with President Trump.

According to the New York Post, Mayor Francis Suarez said in statement that he wanted to let Miami residents know about his status in regards to the coronavirus. Currently, he is under self-quarantine and is encouraging  everyone to take precaution:

“I feel completely healthy and strong. However, I am doing the responsible thing by working with the county’s health department to take every precaution to ensure that not only my family is healthy, but everyone I have come into contact with is healthy as well.”

He also stated that the people he’s had close encounters with to self-quarantine for 14 days but believes testing is not immediately necessary.

Prior to the diagnosis, Mayor Suarez was set to declare a state of emergency for the city of Miami before learning about his test results. He took the test on Thursday afternoon as per the request of health officials.
