Memphis Cop Charged After Kidnapping & Killing Man While On Duty

A Memphis, Tennessee cop has been arrested and charged after kidnapping and killing a man while still on duty. The officer has been identified as 29-year-old Patric Ferguson; who has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree murder in perpetration of aggravated kidnapping — specifically aggravated kidnapping, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with or fabricating evidence.

It’s stated within a Memphis Police (MPD) affidavit that Ferguson allegedly shot and killed 30-year-old Robert Howard after shoving him into the back of squad car and driving him to Frayser Boulevard and Denver Street and shooting him. Howard’s girlfriend reported him missing on Wednesday (Jan. 6) and the next day, she found his cellphone on the side of a road nearby.

Via an extensive statement released by the MPD, Ferguson allegedly acted “on his own accord.” However, a second person, identified as 28-year-old Joshua Rogers, is believed to have helped move Howards’ body. Rogers has been arrested and charged with accessory to murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with or fabricating evidence. It’s also noted that investigators found internet searches on Ferguson’s phone about cleaning up crime scenes and destroying DNA evidence, in addition to surveillance video showing Ferguson shooting Howard “while on duty.”
