During her sit-down interview, Melinda said that one of the contributing factors to their divorce was her ex-husband’s ties with Jefferey Epstein, the disgraced financier: “It was many things,” Melinda said. “But I did not like that he’d had meetings with Jeffrey Epstein. I made that clear to him.”

She told Gayle King she met Epstein “exactly one time because I wanted to see who this man was. And I regretted it from the second I stepped in the door.” However, she learned that “he was abhorrent. He was evil personified. I had nightmares about it afterward. So my heart breaks for these young women,” she added. As it was previously reported, Melinda and Bill Gates announced their split in May 2021 after 27 years of marriage. When their divorce became public, it was revealed that Melinda had actually been seeking a divorce since 2019 after Gates’ ties to convicted sex offender Epstein came to light.

King also asked Melinda about Bill’s alleged infidelity and how she handled that. She said,
“Well, I certainly believe in forgiveness, so I thought we had worked through some of that,” she said. “It wasn’t one moment or one specific thing that happened. There just came a point in time where there was enough there that I realized it just wasn’t healthy, and I couldn’t trust what we had.”
