The numbers are in and despite debuting between 6 and 7 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, First Lady Melania Trump’s new film, ‘Melania,’ pulled in $7.04 million during opening weekend, across 1,778 theaters.
Early box office projections for the documentary estimated a $2 to $5 million opening weekend, while others tracked $8 million.
With the $7 million domestic debut, the First Lady’s new film has become the highest-grossing non-concert documentary within the last 10 years. The budget for the film has a reported total of $75 million. The breakdown shows a $40 million production budget from Amazon Studios, along with another $45 million in marketing by the entertainment giant.
Additionally, reports claim the First Lady herself pocketed $28 million of the $40 million from Amazon. As for the Brett Ratner-directed documentary, it follows Melania Trump for 20 days before her husband, President Donald Trump’s second inauguration.

Elsewhere, a proud Trump has since reacted to the success of his wife’s film. While taking to Truth Social on Monday (February 2), he reposted a social media post by Forbes. The article’s title read, ‘’Melania’ Movie Blows Past Projections, Grossing $7 Million.”
The caption continued to read, “‘Melania’ was originally projected to gross an estimated $2 million to $5 million, according to projections from Box Office Pro. The $7 million gross makes it the best opening for a documentary in the last decade, beating the $5 million record set by Angel Studios’ ‘After Death’ in 2023.”
