Meghan Markle is set to face a trial in Tampa on November 4, 2024, following a ruling by a judge. The trial is expected to last up to five days, and Samantha, Meghan’s estranged half-sister, is seeking $75,000 in damages.

Samantha alleges that she was defamed during the highly publicized interview between Meghan, Prince Harry, and Oprah Winfrey that aired in 2021. One of the key points of contention revolves around Meghan’s references to her upbringing as an only child, which Samantha disputes, claiming a normal sibling relationship with her younger half-sister.

The Oprah Winfrey interview with Meghan and Prince Harry captivated audiences worldwide, shedding light on the couple’s experiences within the British royal family. However, the fallout from the interview continues to unfold, with Samantha now pursuing legal action against Meghan.

Samantha, who has been estranged from Meghan for a significant period, alleges that she was defamed during the Oprah interview. Specifically, Samantha takes issue with Meghan’s references to growing up as an only child. According to Samantha, these statements undermine her claim of having a normal sibling relationship with her half-sister. In Samantha’s view, Meghan’s portrayal of herself as an only child contradicts the reality of their shared family history. Samantha asserts that she had a meaningful sibling relationship with Meghan, and she feels that Meghan’s comments during the interview misrepresented their relationship.

“Once Meghan started to have success as an actress, she no longer had time for her older sister, Samantha, and by 2016, the two had stopped visiting, though there were no bad feelings between them, as far as Samantha knew. Unfortunately, once Meghan met and began dating Prince Harry Meghan became hostile to Samantha, as well as her half-brother and her father, and Meghan’s relationship with Samantha became estranged,’ her lawsuit reads.

Meghan’s lawyers have said that the former actress’s comments reflected her own personal experience.

Interestingly enough, in March, a judge in Florida threw out the suit saying that Meghan’s claims would be impossible to disprove. However, following amendments, the same judge appears to have ruled that there is merit to the claims.

The trial, scheduled to begin on November 4, 2024, will provide an opportunity for Samantha to present her case and seek damages. The proceedings are expected to last up to five days, during which both sides will have the opportunity to present evidence and argue their positions.
