On Wednesday (July 16), the “Hot Girl Summer” rapper and Dallas Mavericks star made their red carpet debut at her Inaugural Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in New York City. Megan hit the carpet in a stunning long, halter-neck black gown. She completed the look with a detailed embellished belt draped around her waist and hips. Meanwhile, her new beau matched her fly in a classic, silky-smooth, fitted black-and-white tuxedo.
While on the carpet, the rapper briefly opened up about her new relationship. Speaking with PEOPLE, Megan Thee Stallion, 30, said she and Klay Thompson, 35, had a “meet-cute” and that it was “like a f**king movie,” when they first met.

However, if you want to know when and exactly how they came to be together, the rapper refuses to divulge any further. She fully said, “Oh, we met and it was such a meet cute it was like a f**king movie. I won’t tell you how and I won’t tell you when, but it was a movie.” When asked what her favorite thing is about her new beau, the rapper said, “That he’s the nicest person I ever met in my life.”
The couple sparked dating rumors on July 9 when Megan Thee Stallion posted photos with Klay Thompson ducked off in the background. As she sat on the ledge of a hot tub, the NBA star soaked up the sun on a pool chair.
Fans speculated that the two were secretly seeing each other. However, neither immediately confirmed the fast-swirling rumors. Finally, on July 12, Thompson confirmed his relationship with Megan by sharing full-on PDA photos to his Instagram. Months before Megan Thee Stallion made headlines with Klay Thompson, she was flaunting another NBA player, Torrey Craig, on her social media pages.

The Pete & Thomas Foundation takes its name after Megan Thee Stallion’s late parents, Joseph Pete III and Holly Thomas. According to the foundation’s website, its programs are “focused in the areas of education, housing, health & wellness, and community goodwill,” and the organization.
Additionally, the Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala was held to “provide resources to effect meaningful and positive change in the lives of women and children, senior citizens, and underserved communities” in Houston and around the world.
While honoring her family legacy, Megan Thee Stallion told PEOPLE:
“I feel like they can see what I’m doing right now. I feel like they’re looking down on me from heaven, and I feel like they’re like, ‘Yes, daughter!’ I feel like my momma’s so happy. I feel like she is clapping. I feel like my great-grandma is so happy. I feel like my daddy is like, ‘this is exactly what I knew my child was gonna do.’ I feel like they’re super proud.”
