A medical examiner reports that rapper Young Scooter died after cutting his leg on a wood fence during a police chase — which was sparked by an unnamed woman calling 911 about a “naked,” “bloody,” and “abused woman,” and now APD is offering a $5,000 reward for the caller’s identity.

As we previously shared, on Friday (March 28), Young Scooter, born Kenneth Edward Bailey, not only celebrated his 39th birthday, but he tragically died the same day. Atlanta Police Department Lt. Andrew Smith, also commander of Atlanta’s homicide unit, said the rapper fled from officers responding to a 911 call about a dispute involving a deadly weapon.

Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of William Nye Drive in Southeast Atlanta after reports of gunfire and a woman being beaten bloody and dragged into a residence. Smith said, “When officers arrived, they knocked on the door and a male opened the door. He then immediately shut the door on the officers.”

Police set up a perimeter around the home as two men fled from the back of the house. One returned and the other man jumped two fences before being found injured nearby. Smith said, “He appeared to have suffered an injury to his leg. Officers rendered aid and he was transported to Grady Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.”

Atlanta Police Offer $5K Reward For Identity Of 911 Caller In Young Scooter Death

On Monday (March 31), Atlanta Police released the more than 10-minute 911 call in Scooter’s case. The call was made by an unnamed woman in DeKalb County and transferred to a Fulton County operator. The caller used an “SOS” phone, or a cellphone no longer on a cellular network that can only call 911. Thus, police have no way of calling the person back to identify them.

On the dispatch call, the woman said she witnessed a naked woman being dragged out of a house in a dispute over drugs. She claimed the woman eventually called more men over to retaliate and shoot up the place. The female caller, who refused to give her name, claimed she was “the neighborhood watch.” The woman also told 911 that she long believed the house was used for drug-dealing or a prostitution ring. She claimed the alleged activities were run by guys who regularly showed off guns.

She urged officers to hurry because the woman was “bleeding profusely” from her head while being kept hostage. Police were also told there was a child in danger. However, upon arrival, they encountered none of what the caller mentioned. Police were met with a slammed door by a man when they attempted to approach the front of the home.

Medical Examiner Says Young Scooter Died After Injuring Femoral Artery In Police Chase

Police said they then discovered Young Scooter — clueless about the 911 dispatch — attempting to flee the area. They found him with a femoral artery tear and rushed him to Grady Marcus Trauma Center — where he later succumbed to his injuries later that night.

Now, police are offering a $5,000 reward for help identifying the woman who called 911 hours before Scooter died. Despite rumors circulating online, on Tuesday (April 1), the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said Young Scooter died after cutting his right thigh on a wooden fence causing “marked” blood loss. They added, “This injury was not a gunshot wound.”

An autopsy was performed on Saturday (March 29), however, it could take up to 90 days for the final report to be completed. Elsewhere, in a press release sent to Rolling Stone, officials noted, “Mr. Bailey sustained a penetrating injury of his right thigh that created marked blood loss. This injury was not a gunshot wound. Mr. Bailey injured himself on organic (wooden) fencing material and/or woody debris after vaulting at least one fence.”
