MC Lyte has addressed finalizing her divorce from ex-husband John Wyche on Instagram following reports that she got to keep her music catalog. Lyte had filed for divorce from Wyche back in 2020, but things were not officially over until last week when a judge finalized the divorce.

It was then revealed that the pair had a prenuptial agreement in place, meaning that whatever Lyte had before and during the marriage, she was going to keep it. When news outlets began reporting on the rapper getting to keep her valuable assets, a lot of people cheered for her, under the impression that Wyche may have been fighting for a piece of his ex’s fortune.

“My divorce was not a battle,” the photo read, accompanied by the caption, “My ex-husband, John Wyche, has never attempted to take any assets from me at any time before, during, or after our marriage.

“Anything that is written or said that states or implies otherwise is untrue and unfair. I do not agree with or support anything that aims to secure clicks and views by crafting slanted messaging at the expense of the reputation of innocent parties.”

“While I made public comments related to the delay in signing papers, I can state that any delay may have been connected to his desire to save the relationship; never to take any of my property,” she continued. “Since this matter appears to be of concern to so many, I will use this moment to share a few lessons:”
