Mayor Bill De Blasio Says New York Will Not Reopen Before June

The Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio has revealed that the big apple will not reopen before June “unless something miraculous happens,” despite Governor Andrew Cuomo announcing that some low risk businesses can open May 15.

De Blasio made the revelation during a press conference on Monday,

“Unless something miraculous happens, we’re going into June,” he said adding that New York is “clearly not ready yet.”

“The likelihood right now, is that we’re going into June.”

“June is when we’re potentially going to make changes if we make real progress. We have to keep bringing it back to the science and the data.”

New York City has been an a strict lockdown since March, and has been the hardest hit city by the coronavirus in the US.

However, Governor Andre Cuomo announces Monday that NYC would go into phase 1 and begin reopening some low risk businesses and activities by Friday.

“We start a new chapter today in many ways,” Cuomo said at a daily briefing. “It’s an exciting new phase. We are all anxious to get back to work. We want to do it smartly. We want to do it intelligently. But we want to do it.”

Since Sunday, 178,766 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in New York City.
