One thing about Floyd Mayweather he’s always going to step in and help out!

As previously reported, wildfires on Hawaii’s Maui island and Big Island have not only devastated the historic resort city of Lahaina but sadly killed dozens of people and forced thousands of residents and tourists to evacuate. The fires have caused widespread devastation in Lahaina, a beach resort city of about 13,000 people on northwestern Maui. According to Yahoo News, it’s the deadliest wildfire the United States has seen in five years, following 2018’s Camp Fire that killed around 85 people in California.

While many scramble to survive this latest disaster, Floyd Mayweather has become a helpful resource for those in need. Per @tmz_tv Sports, Mayweather jas paid for 68 families to fly from Maui to Honolulu in recent days. The 46-year-old boxing champ also set up hotel accommodations, food from local restaurants, and clothing from H&M to wear while the people are away from their homes. Although Mayweather did not comment on his extremely kind gesture, TMZ notes that Mayweather confirmed providing assistance to families.

Of course this is not the first time Floyd has stepped in to help during a great time in need. In 2020 when George Floyd was tragically killed at the knee of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, Floyd Mayweather made a commitment to pay for all of George’s funeral costs. He exclusively told us at the time,

“I felt it was important to share this because his voice has a global impact that needs to be heard, especially during these times.”

At least 36 people have died after a fast-moving wildfire turned Lahaina to ashes, officials said August 9, 2023 as visitors asked to leave the island of Maui found themselves stranded at the airport. The fires began burning early August 8, scorching thousands of acres and putting homes, businesses and 35,000 lives at risk on Maui, the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency said in a statement. When Did The Wildfires Start?

The fires started Tuesday and fanned out across the island, growing in size and destructive power. Hawaii offically declared a state of emergency on Wednesday. Wildfires have quadrupled in Hawaii in recent decades. However, the causes of this week’s fires haven’t been determined. Though officials note that a combination of weather factors generated what the National Weather Service calls “red flag” conditions in which fires are likely to start and spreading.

Erica Fleishman, a climate scientist at Oregon State University told CNN, “Experts say that wildfires in Hawaii are now burning through four times the amount of area than in previous decades, in part due to the proliferation of more flammable non-native grasses but also rising global temperatures. We can say there are conditions that are consistent with wildfire, wildfire size and expansion that are changing as climate changes. And some of the things that we’re seeing with this wildfire in Maui are consistent with some of the trends that are known and projected as climate changes.”

What Is President Biden Doing About The Wildfires?

President Biden has since approved a national disaster declaration for Hawaii — giving federal resources to help in the massive response efforts to the ongoing wildfires. Sharing remarks Thursday morning, Biden said:

“I’m going to make sure that the state has everything needs from the federal government to recover. Our prayers are with with the people of Hawaii, but not just our prayers. Every asset we have will be available to them.”
