Matty Healy is addressing the backlash from his podcast appearance where he laughed at remarks made about rapper Ice Spice.
During Healy’s conversation with hosts Friedland and Nick Mullen on The Adam Friedland Show, the three spent time discussing the “Princess Diana” artist. At one point, Healy laughed as the two podcast hosts made fun of Ice Spice using derogatory terms about her body and ethnicity, calling her an “Inuit Spice Girl,” and “chubby Chinese lady,” while seemingly using Chinese and Hawaiian accents to mimic her. He apologized for the February comments, telling concertgoers back in April, “I just feel a bit bad, and I’m kind of a bit sorry if I’ve offended you. Ice Spice, I’m sorry.”
Now, you all know fans don’t forget about anything! Following rumors that the 1975 frontman has been dating Taylor Swift, who collaborated with Ice Spice on the “Karma” remix, he’s been receiving even more backlash as some have been requesting Swift to denounce Healy’s past statements. However, in an interview published Monday by The New Yorker, Healy addresses all the online commotion over the old podcast episode which has since been scrubbed from Spotify. He said it doesn’t “actually matter” and added that anyone who is offended by the episode is “deluded.” “You’re either lying that you are hurt, or you’re a bit mental for being hurt,” he said. “It’s just people going, ‘Oh, there’s a bad thing over there, let me get as close to it as possible so you can see how good I am.’”
“And I kind of want them to do that, because they’re demonstrating something so base level,” the songwriter continued saying.
He also said ultimately, “Nobody is sitting there at night slumped at their computer, and their boyfriend comes over and goes, ‘What’s wrong, darling?’ and they go, ‘It’s just this thing with Matty Healy,’” the 1975 frontman explained. “That doesn’t happen.”

The two haven’t just been receiving backlash from fans. Fellow entertainer Azealia Banks has also shared her unfiltered opinion about their alleged romance.
“Taylor, this guy is gonna give you scabies. He’s not on the level of powerful p—s u worked HELLA hard to build,” the “212” rapper captioned a Tuesday, May 30, Instagram Story video. Banks went on to say that there are “so many much cooler people” in the music industry and told the songstress, 33, that she “should really tap James Mercer from The Shins” instead.
“James Mercer is honestly one of the best lyricists ever,” the New York native wrote before slamming Healy even more, “Ugh this dude is a full incel. You cannot be letting him climb the rich white Coochie mountain sis.”
