Matthew Lawrence has clarified a comment he recently made that may have seemed like he was putting “pressure” on his girlfriend, TLC’s Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas, to start a family with him. As we reported back in January, the pair have been dating since November, and by the look of things, their romance is still going strong. But Lawrence recently telling Entertainment Tonight that there was a “game plan” to have kids with Chilli may have raised people’s eyebrows a little, as the actor assured in a new interview he wasn’t coercing the singer into having his baby.
“It’s such an interesting story. Joe and I were commiserating about this plan that we had to have children together … when we were growing up,” he told E! News while referring to his brother Joey Lawrence. He ended up missing his chance when Joey went on to welcome his firstborn, but after learning that he was expecting his second child, “I was thinking, ‘Man, it’d be great if we could do it again when I didn’t have the chance to raise a family together.’”

“So that’s what I meant by that. I didn’t mean to put any pressure on somebody I was dating or anything.” Chilli already shares a 25-year-old son named Trey with music producer Dallas Austin, and though it’s unclear whether she had plans of becoming a mother again, Lawrence notes the “No Scrubs” singer would be ecstatic if those plans were to align somewhere down the line.
Speaking of how Chilli has managed to raise the man that her son has become today, Lawrence describes her as an “amazing person” who he credits for doing a tremendous job with Trey. “I respect so much as to how she’s raised him. She’d be an incredible mother again and I’d be incredibly lucky but that’s way in the future.”
While the two are believed to have started dating in November, Chilli and Lawrence didn’t go public until late December when they were seen sporting matching pyjamas in a video posted to social media. The “Boy Meets World” star, who was previously married to Dancing With the Stars Cheryl Burke has clearly been smitten by his leading lady who he hasn’t stopped gushing about since making things official.
Lawrence told Entertainment Tonight how his life felt like it had entered a complete bloom over the fact that he gets to spend time with someone like Chilli, revealing that he had never been in a relationship with a woman like her before. “She’s really, really special.”
Chilli has previously been linked to celebrities including Nick Cannon, Usher, and, of course, Austin, who helped produce some of TLC’s biggest hits throughout their chart-topping success in the ‘90s.
