Cops in Maryland are looking for three teenagers who jumped on a school bus and confronted a student who they attempted to kill, per ABC7. The incident took place on Monday, according to the police report, which claims three teens hopped on the bus, with one of them pointing a gun at a 14-year-old before pulling the trigger three times — but the gun was jammed. “They pulled the trigger three times, but for some reason, by the grace of God, the gun didn’t go off and bullets flew out of the gun,” Martin Diggs, who is head of the bus drivers’ union said.
Since one of the hooded teens failed to shoot the student, he decided to physically beat him instead and then rushed off the bus with the other two masked boys as they fled the scene. The 14-year-old, who attends Prince George’s County Alternative Middle School, is believed to have questioned him on whether he knew who could’ve been responsible for the crime, but so far, law enforcement officers are still piecing together enough evidence to make any arrests.
Diggs has since called for more security on school buses following the attack, which is even said to have left the bus driver fearful for their life. “They’re terrified. The one driver doesn’t even want to come back to work. They are terrified. They don’t even want to come out of the house,” he continued. Police are still trying to determine a motive for the attempted killing as an investigation remains ongoing.
Teenagers are at a vulnerable stage in their lives where they are trying to establish their identity and place in society. Unfortunately, some of them succumb to negative influences such as peer pressure, drug abuse, and exposure to violence, which can lead to criminal behavior.
Another contributing factor is the lack of access to quality education and employment opportunities. When teenagers feel hopeless and trapped in a cycle of poverty, they may turn to crime as a way to survive. Additionally, the breakdown of family structures and the absence of positive role models can also contribute to the rise in teen crime rate.
The statistics on teen crime rate in Maryland are alarming. According to the Maryland Statistical Analysis Center, in 2019, juveniles were responsible for 17% of all arrests in the state. This figure has been on a steady increase over the past few years, and it is essential that we take action to reverse this trend.
The crimes committed by teenagers in Maryland range from drug offenses, theft, and vandalism to more severe crimes such as assault and homicide. The use of guns in these crimes is also prevalent, and it is a worrying trend that needs to be addressed.

The use of guns in teen crimes is a disturbing trend that needs urgent attention. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there were 121 gun-related incidents involving teenagers in Maryland in 2020 alone. This figure includes incidents such as accidental shootings, homicides, and suicides.
The ease of access to guns in Maryland is a significant contributing factor to this problem. The state has some of the weakest gun laws in the country, making it easy for teenagers to obtain guns illegally. We need to strengthen our gun laws and ensure that guns do not fall into the wrong hands.
