Mary J. Blige Says Her 15th Studio Album Will “Probably Be My Last Studio Album”

Mary J. Blige might be done with music after she releases her 15th album. While speaking to @people in a recent interview she revealed that she’s working on new music. 

“I’m actually in the studio right now recording more music, and I’m having fun,” Blige told the news outlet. “I’m having fun no matter what happens.” With being in the game so long Blige was asked what continues to inspire her to make great music. “I believe in love for myself, love for life, love for happiness, love for God, love for peace. Know that life is full of ups and downs, and roll with the punches because life is important.”

During she interview she also confirmed that new songs that she’s is writing will be on her 15th album. “It’s probably my last studio album,” she added. This isn’t the first time that the singer has hinted at retirement, during a 2022 interview with The Breakfast Club she said her time was coming soon once she performed at the Super Bowl. “A lot of consistent hard work on self, how I treat myself, and how I treat everyone else. And a lot of work just on the business and building the business and keeping the legacy, you know, just making everything where one day when I retire, which will probably be soon, I’ll be straight.”

Blige’s most recent album, “Good Morning Gorgeous,” was released over two years ago and marked her 14th LP. The title track, produced by D’Mile and H.E.R., became a No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, making it Blige’s seventh chart-topper at the time. In February, she achieved her eighth No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart with “Still Believe in Love,” a track featuring Vado that spent eight weeks at the top of the chart.

On February 11, 2022, Blige released “Good Morning Gorgeous,” just two days before her acclaimed Super Bowl performance alongside Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar, for which she won an Emmy award.

Blige dropped the deluxe version of “Good Morning Gorgeous” on May 6, 2022, featuring collaborations with H.E.R., Ne-Yo, Jadakiss, Moneybagg Yo, Fabolous, and others. The deluxe edition received six nominations at the 65th Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Best R&B Album, Best R&B Performance for “Here With Me,” Best R&B Song for “Good Morning Gorgeous,” Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Good Morning Gorgeous,” and Record of the Year for “Good Morning Gorgeous.”
