Martin Lawrence has quipped that he would send the wedding bill to Eddie Murphy if his daughter Jasmine Lawrence tied the knot with Eddie’s son Eric Murphy. While it’s unclear how long the pair have been dating, Eric first began posting photos of his significant other in June 2021 in a post accompanied by the caption, “Head over heels in LOVE with YOU.”
Jasmine, too, has posted a string of doting photos of herself and her beau on her social media platform, so it’s fair to assume that their relationship truly is the real deal. And during his appearance on Jimmel Kimmel Live! this week, Martin dived into the subject of his daughter’s romance with Eric.
Apparently, Martin and Eddie are not talking about their kids’ relationship to one another, as he told Jimmy, “We haven’t talked about it. We kind of just stay out of their business and let them do their own thing, and respect their thing.” The Bad Boys actor went on to quip that he would put aside tradition to have Eddie foot any wedding costs if the pair were to consider marriage down the line. “I’m gonna try to get Eddie to pay for it.”
There’s no denying that Jasmine is absolutely smitten by her beau, who she gushed about in a previous Instagram post on his birthday. She wrote, “Happy birthday, my love! I’m so incredibly blessed to know you, to love you, and to have you by my side. Cheers to many more blessings, laughs, and beautiful memories! I love you so much!!”
Martin and Eddie have been friends for at least 30 years, having first appeared on camera together when they starred in the 1992 comedy “Boomerang” together. By 1999, they joined forces once again for the motion picture “Life,” but their closeness went further than just having chemistry on-set; Eddie even attended Martin’s 2010 wedding to Shamicka Gibbs in Beverly Hills.
Martin, who starred in the Martin: The Reunion special on BET+ this week, will soon be reprising his role as Marcus Burnett for the fourth installment of Bad Boys with co-star Will Smith. The project has already entered pre-production, with the film’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer telling Collider in a previous interview that a script for the next movie was still in development.
“We had a great experience on the first one, both through the development process with Tom Rothman [chair of Sony] and his team, and then through the editing process and filming process. We put together, along with their help, a movie that’s very satisfying for the audience, and we’d like to do it again, and I think they’d like us to do it again. We’re currently working on a draft for the fourth one.”
The Bad Boys franchise has earned more than $1.8 billion at the worldwide box office, so it’s no surprise that a fourth is currently being worked on. And yes, Will is expected to reprise his role in the film despite his recent Oscars outburst.
