A Pennsylvania State Trooper has been arrested and charged after he allegedly violently detained his 37-year-old ex-girlfriend and then illegally committed her to a psych ward for five days, under false claims.
Last week, Pennsylvania State Police trooper Ronald Davis was arrested for allegedly having his ex-girlfriend, whom he had dated for about four months, involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility. He’s since been remanded without bail following an arraignment on Thursday (September 21).
The Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office later released a press release and reported that the 37-year-old officer is facing charges of felony strangulation, unlawful imprisonment, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and official oppression after he placed his ex-girlfriend, identified by the District Attorney as M.F., into a mental health treatment program under false claims.

According to reports, Davis is married with children and was reportedly having an “intimate relationship with the victim.” As a result of Davis’ actions, the woman was involuntarily committed to a psych ward for five days. Upon forcing the woman into a medical treatment center, Davis reportedly told her, “I know you’re not crazy, I’ll paint you as crazy.”
The District Attorney’s Office also said that Davis’ quest to have his ex committed began on August 21 when he allegedly tried to get his fellow troopers to give him some advice on getting her put in a mental facility. An affidavit of probable cause said he allegedly told his colleagues that the woman had mental health problems.

While taking the advice from one state police officer, Davis, who was off-duty at the time, contacted county officials from his police email account and identified himself as a trooper in order to obtain an order. In his message, he also submitted purported text messages from the woman, in which she reportedly threatened suicide.
Upon getting approval, Davis and a civilian companion went out looking for the woman and found her in a picnic area at a state forest. There, Davis picked her up and carried her to his car, and then got into a struggle as he tries to apprehend her.
In video footage captured by the man with Davis and released by the DA’s office, the charged state trooper is seen sitting on top of his ex-girlfriend as she tried to get away from him. Meanwhile, uniformed troopers were on their way to officially place her in custody.
In the footage, the woman claims she was minding her business when Davis tackled her. She said she didn’t need any help and wanted to get away from him. She said, “You’re insane. .You’re absolutely insane … and then you paint me to look insane.” Before the uniformed officers arrived and took her to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill, the woman asked, “Why are you treating me like a criminal?”
By the time she arrived at the hospital, the woman suffered injuries to her forehead, torso, back, buttocks, forearms, knee, and lower body. For five days, she would be illegally committed, despite not showing any signs of being suicidal. On August 26, she was released and subsequently interviewed by police.
After the interview and seeing text messages between the former couple, police said there was no need for her to be forced into a psych ward after Davis illegally committed her. The alleged “suicidal” messages submitted by Davis appeared to be hypothetical in nature and taken out of context from a bigger argument they’d had over their failing relationship.
An affidavit alleged, “The text messages were the culmination of a larger, domestic dispute between he and the victim. Taken in context, the texts revealed her frustration with Trooper Davis and his controlling behavior … not a true desire to harm herself.”
