Being the youngest of ten siblings, many of whom have built up incredible credentials in Hollywood, can be hard for anyone — including Marlon Wayans. Despite his three-decade-long-running career in the entertainment business, the 50-year-old still finds himself being compared to some of his famous brothers, including Shawn, Damon, Keenen, and Dwayne.

During a recent sit down on REVOLT’s “Drink Champs,” host N.O.R.E. quizzed the funny man about whether carrying the last name Wayans has brought along challenges for him given that his siblings are well-recognized for their acting and comedic talents. “Being part of this family, is that something that is a plus, or ‘he’s supposed to be funny,’ because […] he’s from this royal family, he’s supposed to be funny? Or because he’s funny?” N.O.R.E. asked.

“I had it hard, but I wouldn’t have it any other way,” the “Scary Movie” star responded. “I’m not walking just in my own light. N****, I got giant footprints that have paved ways, and yet I have to have the courage to be able to step in those footprints and then veer off and create my own giant footprints.” Wayans added that he doesn’t consider it a curse to be born into a successful family; he sees it as a gift.

“The pressure of being the baby of my family, it made me have to step up; it made me have to be better — I can’t be regular, I have to be great. I can’t be good; good ain’t good enough.”

Wayans’ family played a significant role in shaping his comedy career. Growing up, he and his siblings would often perform skits and plays for their family and friends. They also watched a lot of comedy movies and shows together, which inspired them to pursue careers in entertainment.

His family also provided him with a lot of support and encouragement as he pursued his dreams. His brothers, in particular, were instrumental in his success. They helped him develop his comedy style and provided him with opportunities to showcase his talent.

The Wayans Brothers’ first major break came in the late 1980s when they were hired to write and perform on the sketch comedy show “In Living Color.” The show was a huge success and helped launch the careers of many comedians, including Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, and David Alan Grier.

Wayans’ breakout role came in the 1996 movie “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.” The movie was a parody of popular hood films and showcased his ability to make audiences laugh with his physical comedy and witty one-liners. The father of two’s comedy style is characterized by his ability to blend physical comedy with social commentary. He often uses humor to address sensitive topics like race and politics, making his comedy both entertaining and thought-provoking.
