According to the New York Daily News, Mark Zuckerburg announced earlier today that changes would be made after advertisers pledged to stop advertising on Facebook. He said the company will become more vigilant in removing hateful content in ads, false claims along with helping eliminate voter suppression for all elections in 2020.
From his personal Facebook page, Zuckerburg writes “The 2020 elections were already shaping up to be heated — and that was before we all faced the additional complexities of voting during a pandemic and protests for racial justice across the country. During this moment, Facebook will take extra precautions to help everyone stay safe, stay informed, and ultimately use their voice where it matters most — voting.”

The company’s stock fell after the advertising company Unilver stopped advertisement for over 400 brands amid the protests against police brutality and President Trump’s problematic posts on Facebook and Instagram.
“Continuing to advertise on these platforms at this time would not add value to people and society,” said Unilver Executive Vice President of Global Media Luis Di Como.
