Mariah Carey marked a major chart milestone on Monday, Dec. 15, after her holiday single “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reached 20 total weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
According to Billboard, the achievement sets a new record for the longest cumulative run at the top of the chart. The song, originally released in 1994, has returned to No. 1 multiple times over the years during the holiday season.
Carey acknowledged the milestone by posting a message on Instagram alongside a photo. “Humbly taking back the torch!! 20 weeks at #1,” she wrote. “I’m so grateful ❤️”
‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ Reaches 20 Weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” has become one of the most consistently charting holiday songs in Billboard history. Since its debut, the track has re-entered the Hot 100 annually during the holiday season, driven by radio airplay, digital sales, and streaming.
The song first reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 in 2019, decades after its initial release. Since then, it has returned to the top spot multiple times, adding to its cumulative total. The 20-week milestone surpasses previous records held by other long-running No. 1 songs.
Billboard tracks the Hot 100 using a combination of U.S. streaming data, radio airplay, and sales figures. Each week at No. 1 contributes to a song’s cumulative total rather than consecutive weeks only.
The latest chart placement reflects continued listener demand during the 2025 holiday season.
