Mariah Carey & Former Assistant Head To Trial Over $8M Extortion Lawsuit

Legendary songstress Mariah Carey is proving she’s one that doesn’t back down easily, as she and her former assistant gear up for trial over an $8 million extortion lawsuit.

In 2019, Carey sued her ex-assistant Lianna Shakhnazaryan for $5 million in damages after accusing her of filming “intimate videos” of the legend without permission. Carey added that the assistant blackmailed her with the videos, and tried to extort her for $8 million.

In retaliation, the assistant, first hired in 2015, countersued for alleged unpaid wages and wrongful termination, while denying any allegations of wrongdoing. The two tried mediation in hopes to settle their suits, but as of late, they cannot come to an agreement; and are looking to head to trial for the courts to decide.

Specifically, their lawyers have informed the judge presiding, “The parties were unable to resolve these matters.”

Additionally, in recent times, Carey has plead with the judge to deny Shakhnazaryan’s attempt to grab her medical records; this after she received numerous subpoenas for her private medical records. The judge denied the request, ruling in favor of the ex-employee.
