It’s officially Mariah Carey season, with the singer’s 1994 classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” having returned to the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100. As per the publication, the track was streamed an impressive 36.2 million times in the past week, as well as logging 29.9 million audience impressions on radio, and subsequently dethroned Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero.”

“All I Want For Christmas,” which Mariah wrote and co-produced, first reached number one on the Hot 100 back in 2019, before repeating that feat both in 2020 and 2021. Her return to No. 1 this year marks the fourth time “AIWFCIY” has completely dominated the Hot 100 during the holiday season. It’s predicted that with two weeks to go until Christmas, the song is going to continue to soar in streams and radio play, which would indicate the track will firmly remain in the top five until January.

Mariah recently explained how the song’s ongoing popularity since its release almost 30 years ago has never ceased to “amaze me and fill my heart with a multitude of emotions.” She continued, “It blows my mind that ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ has endured different eras of the music industry.” Socialites, is this one of your favorite songs to play during the lead-up to Christmas?

After being awarded her RIAA-certified Diamond plaque in late 2021 for “AIWFCIY,” Mariah further expressed her gratitude for the ongoing support the track continues to receive every Christmas period. “The RIAA DIAMOND award?! Wowww! I’m so fortunate to have the greatest fans on Earth, my Lambily, who continue to support my legacy. I love you,” she retorted.

Elsewhere, while it’s been four years since Mariah released her fifteenth studio album, “Caution,” the mother of two shared in October that she’d been working on new music — with most of the songs being recorded while she was stuck at home during the pandemic.

“It’s about three or four different things,” she said while talking about the music she’s been creating in her at-home recording studio. “One is a project that I’m almost finished with that I was doing some background vocal tweaks on.”

“One is [new] songs that could be for the scripted series [by Lee Daniels] or a documentary. And then there’s a themed album. It’s something that people have been asking me to do for years, but it’s not done in the traditional sense. It’s not done yet, but I’m really excited about it. I’m working [on that album] with some very eclectic, newer artists, as well as some legendary folks.”
