Charges were filed on Monday evening, just hours after the 26-year-old appeared in a Pennsylvania court for unrelated weapon and forgery charges. Earlier that day, Mangione was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where police discovered he was in possession of a fake New Jersey driver’s license and a handgun. This arrest follows the recent shooting of Thompson, who was killed in Manhattan in front of a Hilton hotel just a week prior.
Additional sources indicated that Mangione referred to UnitedHealthcare in his alleged two-page manifesto, where he discussed the healthcare system and expressed his views. “These parasites had it coming…I do apologize for any strife and trauma, but it had to be done.”Mangione’s cousin, Delegate Nino Mangione of the Maryland Republic, issued a statement expressing that the family is “devastated” by the arrest of their loved one.
