A district judge in Ann Arbor, Michigan, was surprised to see a man with a suspended driver’s license participating in a court Zoom call while behind the wheel of his car.

Court footage captures Judge Cedric Simpson’s stunned reaction as the defendant, Corey Harris, joins the court hearing while driving his car. “Mr Harris, are you driving?” Simpson asked Harris. “Actually, I’m pulling into my doctor’s office,” Harris responds.

The public defender representing Harris then requested a postponement of the hearing for ‘potentially up to four weeks, with the court’s approval.’ While still being shocked that Harris was driving during the hearing the judge spoke out saying, “Okay, so maybe I don’t understand something. This is a driving while license suspended [case], and he was just driving, and he didn’t have a license.”

“That is correct your honor,” the public defender responds.

The judge then revoked Harris’s bond and instructed him to surrender himself to the local county jail by that evening.

“I don’t even know why he would do that,” Simpson says.

He had until 6 p.m. that night to turn himself in and he would be held without bond.

“Oh my god,” Harris said as he threw his head back.
