37-year-old Xiao Guo was discovered by a group of reporters last week in an iron cage and transported to the Inner Mongolia Third Hospital for treatment. His father, Lao Guo, forced him to live in the cage after his behavior became more violent and on one occasion, he tried to burn down the family home. Another incident involved Xiao chasing around a family member with a kitchen knife and he was sent to several doctors for treatment but the family said it was too expensive.

As a temporary solution, Lao locked his son in the cage in order to prevent further incidents in the home and criminal activities outside of it. Additionally, he explained that his son became a teacher after graduating from school but had one violent episode on random occasions plus his mother left the family when Xiao was ten years old.
