OMG! The man who escaped a Pennsylvania prison by crab-walking between two walls has been captured after a massive 14-day manhunt!
Last week, we previously reported on 34-year-old Danelo Cavalcante after he escaped the Chester County Prison in Pocopson Township. The inmate was convicted of first-degree murder on August 16 in the 2021 killing of his former girlfriend, 33-year-old Deborah Brandão. He was sentenced to life without parole for his crime. He is also wanted in a 2017 homicide case in Brazil, which is his native country.
However on August 31, he decided that he wasn’t serving his life sentence in Pennsylvania, and he was seen on camera stretching his legs across brick and cinderblock walls, pushing himself to the roof, where he eventually made his way out of custody successfully.

Following his crab-walk escape, the acting warden at the Pennsylvania prison, Howard Holland, held a press conference and notified news outlets that this was not the first time that something like this had happened. Holland said another inmate had used this same technique before.
Pennsylvania prison warden said, “This escape was similar to the methodology to the escape by Cavalcante. Cavalcante escaped at the same location as Igor Bolte. But for Cavalcante, there was razor wire to contend with before reaching the roof. Once the additional razor wire had been added to the escape route following the Igor Bolt escape in May, it was determined by our security advisors that this one level of security was sufficient.”
Holland added, “In fact, what was perhaps overlooked was the fact that addressing a single point of physical countermeasure should have been bolstered by additional means. We are addressing that.”

According to officials, they first realized that Cavalcante was missing when guards realized the number of prisoners was off by one man and sent inmates back to their cells for lockdown. After going into effect, searches around the prison began and soon it was learned that there was no sight of Cavalcante.
Holland noted that he had a 10-minute head start as the community siren did not go off until minutes after he was noticed missing. It was also reported that Cavalcante’s escape was also missed by tower guards. There hadn’t been anyone overlooking the group of prisoners outside or anyone monitoring the 160 cameras at the Pennsylvania prison. As a result of not paying close enough attention, the tower guard has been fired.

Following a massive manhunt that was conducted after Cavalcante’s crazy crab-walk escape, Pennsylvania State Police said on Wednesday (September 13), that the missing man has been captured. Police said that coupled with the numerous headlines and social media posts, multiple agencies took part in trying to locate Cavalcante.
Eventually, after the 14-day search effort, Cavalcante was found and re-apprehended, without any shots being fired during the morning capture, despite being armed with a stolen .22 caliber rifle.
It’s reported that with the help of a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration aircraft picking up heat signals, and the El Paso Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) securing the area and searching on foot, team members from both BORTAC and the Pennsylvania State Police were able to move in and capture the missing man, ending the manhunt, but only after a BORTAC dog charged him and pinned him down.
