On Tuesday, 33-year-old Mathias Ometu was jogging in his neighborhood when he was approached by two police officers after they responded to a domestic violence call. A police report said the officers had reasonable suspicion to believe “he matched the description of an alleged strangulation family violence incident” as reported by WION. In addition, the police report states Ometu refused to give his name and birth date after being questioned by police and described him as “aggressive.”
Although the report claims Ometu kicked one of the officers in the face during the confrontation, witnesses said he did not appear to be violent or aggressive towards the officers. He was arrested on charges of two counts of assault on an officer. The video also shows the officers trying to push Ometu into the police vehicle as he’s screaming “You’re choking me!”

The victim of the domestic incident went to the San Antonio Police Department to inform officers that Ometu was not her assailant. In response to the incident, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said in a tweet Thursday that he will be looking into the case.
I am seeking a full accounting of this incident, which is currently under investigation.
We have to approach this situation seriously because every single resident deserves fair and equitable treatment from their city. https://t.co/NeUsAfbdnE
