Mr. Kawshigan met Ms. Tan in 2016 and began a friendship, but things got a little rocky in 2020 when they realized they had different expectations from their relationship. Tan only saw Kawshigan as a “close friend” to whom he confessed his desire for a romantic relationship. However, she told him that he needed to respect her boundaries and that she wanted to limit their interactions.
In response, Kawshigan sent her a letter threatening to sue her for emotional trauma and defamation, as reported by Oddity Central. Last April, Tan filed a harassment suit against him and stopped attending counseling services, although Kawshigan contacted her through WhatsApp and threatened her with the suit. Months later, he filed a court claim and accused Tan of negligence and emotional distress, resulting in costs of therapy programs and losing business partnerships.

He said the breach affected his learning capacity as an “active high-capital trader by night and a busy CEO by day.” A month after the filing, he filed a magistrate’s court claim, alleging that Tan breached an agreement to fix their relationship. Still, in January, State Courts deputy registrar Lewis Tan threw out the case and called it an abuse of the court process.
“Considered in totality, I find that the present action was intentionally initiated by the claimant with the ulterior motive of vexing or oppressing the defendant by requiring her to defend various claims that fundamentally stem from the same factual matrix in different forums. This court will not be an accessory to his calculated attempt to compel engagement from the defendant who, after years of massaging the claimant’s unhappiness, has finally decided to stand up to his threats rather than cower and give in to his demands.”
A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for February 9.
