According to Law&Crime, officers responded to a call from University of Louisville Hospital after a woman arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound to her arm. Police reports state that Beals allegedly pulled out a firearm after the confrontation intensified. Investigators say the woman asked him directly whether he had eaten the children’s snacks, prompting a heated exchange. Moments later, the situation turned violent.
The victim explained that the injury occurred inside or near the residence as Beals was leaving the home.

A key detail in the case involves a family witness who reportedly observed Beals eating the snacks prior to the confrontation. According to the police report, the victim’s aunt allegedly caught Beals eating the children’s food and informed her niece. After relaying what she saw, the aunt reportedly left the home.
