A Michigan man who discovered $43,000 hidden inside a couch that he had purchased from a thrift store, returned all the money to the original owner.

Howard Kirby revealed that he regularly liked to shop at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Flint. He bought a couch back in December and made a surprising discovery when he took it home.

“I still have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming or something,” he said.

He decided to open the couch with his daughter after it felt uncomfortable and lumpy.

“That’s when she started pulling out this,” Kirby added.

$43,170 was found in the cushion part of the couch, but, Kerby said he didn’t feel comfortable keeping the money and called the store to find out who had donated the couch.

The owner turned out to be Kim Fauth-Newberry and the couch belonged to her grandfather, who passed away. The money was then returned to her. Kirby had no legal obligation to return the money, but, did because it was the right thing to do!
