Man Punches Shark To Save His Wife From Attack In Australia

A husband jumped in to save his wife from a great white shark after it attacked her while she was surfing on early Saturday morning.

According to the New York Post, Chantelle Doyle was surfing at Shelley Beach in Port Macquarie when a 10-foot great white shark attacked her. Medics said she sustained “severe lacerations” to her right leg during the attack. Her husband was surfing nearby when noticed Chantelle was in danger and swam to her rescue. Surf Life Saving NSW chief executive Steven Pierce he witnessed the amazing rescue after the shark refused to release the woman:

“This fella paddled over and jumped off his board onto the shark and hit it to get it to release her and then assisted her back into the beach.Pretty full on, really heroic.”

The woman received treatment from bystanders and paramedics before being transported to the Port Macquarie Hospital then flown to Newcastle Hospital for surgery. She is currently in stable condition. This is the third shark attack on the Mid North Coast within months and a month after 15-year-old Mani Hart-Deville was killed in Coffs Habour as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald. 

Other attacks included a 60-year-old surfer who was mauled to death in New South Wales in June, a scuba diver was also killed in the Great Barrier Reef and a 17-year-old boy in Clarence Valley.
