A rooster has killed its owner during a cockfight in New Delhi, India earlier this week. Authorities reported that the animal had a knife strapped to its during the fight.

The man was slashed in the groin when the rooster tried to escape from the fighting area and died after losing too much blood before reaching a local hospital in the Karimnagar district of Telangana state. Before his death, the unidentified man organized a cockfight with 16 other people who held it in the village of Lothunur.
Authorities retrieved the animal after the freak accident and held it at the local police station before sending it to a poultry farm. Officer B. Jeevan said in a statement that investigators are currently trying to locate the other 15 individuals involved in organizing the illegal activity. If they are found, they could be charged with manslaughter, illegal gambling, and hosting a cockfight.

The practice is banned in the district along with in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Odisha states. As reported by CTV News, the events increase numbers during the festival of Sankranti.
