Man Fights For Freedom After Being Sentenced To 47 Years At 15-Years-Old

Virginia juvenile offender Torie Chisholm was 15-years-old when he was given 47-years in prison for armed robbery.

Torie was convicted of 4 counts of robbery, 5 counts of use of a firearm, and malicious wounding. Hi is currently incarcerated at the Virginia Department of Corrections where he has served 18 years in prison.

Chisholm says that he was unfairly tried and convicted for multiple robberies that he did not take part in, while others who were adults and actively involved served their time and have been released. Having already served 18 years for a crime, where no one was hurt, Torie says he is fighting his case so he can get out of prison and be with his two children, who have not grown up with him in their lives.

At the time, the state of Virginia tried him as an adult. Torie says he is seeking, “clemency and wants the governor of Virginia and Parole board of Virginia to look at my case. This petition will help my community and my family because I will be able to be free so that I can impact my kids’ lives and they can have their father out in society with them.”
“I want to bring light to the justice system about how young African American men are being treated so that other kids like me would not have to go through the same experience I went through.”
