Matt underwent the surgery in Los Angeles to have the Penuma implant surgery which was invented by urologist, Dr. Jame Elist. According to Insider, the implant was FDA-approved in 2004 and over 5,000 men had the procedure since then. Additionally, Elist trained 17 urologists to perform the surgery and it only takes 45 to 60 minutes at a cost between $16,000 and $18,000.
Weeks after the surgery, Matt started to experience pain and swelling. Following up those symptoms, he told the outlet that fluid called seroma started to build up under his skin and his penis went into an uncomfortable bend. He went to Elist’s office a year later to have the implant removed but started to experience further complications.

The mesh used to keep the implant in place caused Matt’s penis to be covered in scar tissue, restricting blood flow and prevented it from expanding. Since the complications, he’s had seven correctional surgeries to fix the issues. Nine other men had a similar experience although Elist claims his patients satisfied with their results. Other men have described their experiences on an online forum called PhalloBoards and Matt says the comments are similar to the complications he was dealing with after surgery.
One member wrote, “I had Elist’s Pneuma installed and then taken out 2 months later due to infection. Huge price to pay for a bad decision. Upon removal, I now am living with a 3” shrinkage of my penis. I was told be patient, the size you lost will be restored in time, but be patient. It’s been a year and no increase in size. Some days are better than others, but my life has been “SHATTERED”. Has anyone had any luck recovering length after Penuma removal, either weights or size simply returning, anything? Pissed off in Illinois……”
Other men in the forum asked if they could file a lawsuit against the urologist due to their complications from the surgery. One member also warned other men that they will not achieve their goal length from the procedure.
“Don’t do it. I’m honestly a lucky case. Many of the guys on these boards that have had the implant had complications, sometimes really horrible complications. I did not. My implant as far as I’m concerned is operating just as it should. Sure I have added girth, but I’m telling you it is not worth it. Nonsurgical PE has had astounding results. You will not gain length with this procedure. Let me repeat that. You will not gain length with this procedure.”
Nine of the patients have filed a complaint against Elist with the California Medical Board and said he misdiagnosed them with penile dysmorphic disorder. Allegedly, he didn’t perform any psychological evaluation before the surgery among other concerns listed in the complaint.
