Man Cleared By DNA After Serving 37 Years In Prison

A Florida man who spent 37 years in prison for a crime in 1983, has finally been released after being exonerated by DNA evidence

Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren announced the news on Wednesday.

Warren concluded that Robert DuBoise, 55, did not commit the 1983 murder and rape and murder of 19-year-old Barbara Grams, in Tampa.

“Today is an important day for justice — justice for the family of a victim and a man convicted of killing her,” Warren said announcing the decision. “This is painful and tragic. But it’s the truth, and when you tell the truth, justice is done.”

Per the Tampa Bay Times reports, Duboise was originally sentenced to death but won an earlier case. DNA evidence from the rape kit has shown a connection to another person of interest.

“It’s an overwhelming sense of relief,” Duboise said to reporters, adding that he wasn’t angry for being wrongfully convicted. “I don’t have room in my life for bitterness. If you keep hatred and bitterness in your heart, it just steals your joy from everything else.”
