According to a statement from university officials, the individual was discovered residing in one of the dorms in December 2021, but it didn’t deter him. Campus police could not find him after the initial incident until last Thursday, when authorities removed him off the campus and issued a notice of no return. In a statement, Stanford spokesperson Dee Mostofi emphasized that the individual had been steadfast in assimilating himself into the student community over the previous few months, despite the university’s strong norms and procedures prohibiting non-students from visiting the dorms.

Although some staff members knew the situation, there was no explicit notification regarding his permanent expulsion from the university. To avoid such accidents, the institution declared that it would review its procedures once more.

William Curry, a native of Alabama, was the imposter who had earlier described himself as a transfer student from Duke University. According to CBS News, when authorities discovered him, he was residing in a dorm’s basement and had previously lived in at least five dorms. He allegedly harassed several people on campus and made a Tinder profile to blend in. The profile said he was a pre-med student for class 2025 and said in his about me section that “your parents would love me.”

Cayden Luby,24, who previously lived in the Murray dorm with Curry, told the Stanford Daily how everyone assumed he lived on the second floor or thought he was a friend with one of the football players.

“It just seemed very normal,” Luby said. “Like I [thought], he must live on the second floor because I knew he was not on the first floor. And I knew he didn’t live on the third floor, so I thought he must live on the second floor. And then I found out that he didn’t live on the second floor [because] we went down there and we checked all the names on the doors.”

Curry often gave different answers about his residency, and other residents called his actions “a joke.” He also had a romantic relationship with one of the students who said he had a gambling addiction. After ending the relationship, Curry would stalk and harass her.
