According to Insider, the incident came back on August 7 when park rangers found cooking pots and two whole chickens in a burlap sack at the Shoshone Geyser Basin. One month after the discovery, the Idaho Falls resident pleaded guilty before a Mammoth Hot Springs court on September 10 and was sentenced to pay a $1,200 fine. He has also been sentenced to serve two years of probation without supervision and to be banished from the famous national park.

Two other individuals were also cited by park rangers for the act. Park officials state they have issued several warnings about the hot springs since contact with the liquid can cause severe or fatal burns on the body.

“It is illegal to touch thermal features or throw objects into hot springs or other hydrothermal features. Water in hot springs can cause severe or fatal burns, and scalding water underlies most of the thin, breakable crust around hot springs.”

Over the years, there have several incidents where tourists have been injured or killed while visiting Yellowstone National Park.
