30-year-old Dustin Allen Bushnell was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly stole the slide from a playground in Burbank and attached it to a child’s bunkbed at a mobile home. The news was confirmed by the Pasco Police Department in a press statement and investigators said Bushnell became the main suspect after looking into multiple reports of stolen catalytic converters last month.
While investigating Bushnell’s home, Detective Julie Lee found the slide along with the stolen catalytic converters. She said the slide was repainted, sawed-off at the top, and attached to the bunk bed.
“Anyway, to make a long story as short as a cut-off exhaust pipe, our Crime Prevention guy put out some good info on some suspects in the thefts, sharp-eyed patrol officers found a matching truck with suspects, Detective Lee came over to help, and about five search warrants later, Detective Lee found herself inside the suspect’s home in Burbank, looking for catalytic converters and finding a gigantic slide. Oh, yes, she also found catalytic converters. And other detectives helped. Turns out, most of the original playground set got left behind back in December, but the slide was taken, the top sawed-off, it was repainted, and it was mounted on a bunkbed. Pasco Parks and Rec arrived and recovered the slide,”

Bushnell was arrested and charged with possession of the stolen property. He was booked at the Walla Walla County Jail but he has yet to be charged for stealing the catalytic converters.
