A Michigan man was arrested last month for faking his stabbing after his Apple Watch proved he was not telling the truth.

According to Detroit Free Press, Sam Samitt,26, faked his own stabbing at a West Bloomfield synagogue and told West Bloomfield Township Police he was attacked due to his Jewish faith. Samitt said the stabbing occurred in a parking lot near the Temple Koi Ami, where he worked as a musical director on December 15. He said the attack occurred around 7 p.m. as he was leaving his workplace and said the attacker was a white male in his late 30s to 40s. The young man also claimed he lost consciousness.

However, police found no evidence of a stabbing in the parking lot but found bloody tissues in the synagogue’s restroom and Samitt’s office. A knife was also found in the kitchen with blood on the top of the blade. Surveillance footage from a house across the street showed no assault took place and a health app synced with Samitt’s Apple Watch confirmed he did not lose consciousness during the “stabbing.”

Samitt confessed to stabbing himself and said he wanted to quit his job from the synagogue after working there for a year and a half.

“I put the knife in to see like just how deep it went because I wasn’t really sure then in the process I probably dug it in a little more.”
