Machine Gun Kelly has recalled a disturbing phone call he once shared with Megan Fox which almost saw him take his life. In his Hulu documentary, Machine Gun Kelly’s Life In Pink, the rapper-turned-rockstar detailed how he lost his battle with depression and substance abuse in July 2020, shortly after losing his dad on the one-year anniversary of his “Hotel Diablo” album release.
By this time, Megan and MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker, had been dating for a few months, and she ended up having to travel to Bulgaria for a film shoot. With his now-fiancée out of the country, MGK said his mood subsequently began to turn “really, really, really dark.” He clarified, “Like, I kept getting paranoid that someone was gonna come and kill me.”

He added how he’d slept with a shotgun near his bed and “just f****ng snapped” one day. “I called Megan. I was like, ‘You aren’t here for me.’ I’m in my room and I’m, like, freaking out on her. Dude, I put the shotgun in my mouth. And I’m yelling on the phone and like the barrel’s in my mouth. And I go to cock the shotgun and the bullet, as it comes back up, the shell just gets jammed. Megan’s like dead silent.”
The frightening moment ultimately helped MGK realize he needed to stop his substance abuse — not just for the sake of his relationship with Megan but also for his daughter, Casie.
He admitted that the near-death experience helped him uncover a different perspective of his life. The death of his father had undoubtedly contributed to what led him to put a shotgun in his mouth, but MGK seemed fully aware he’d been dealing with issues aside from his dad’s passing that was brought on by substance abuse.
In a heartfelt tribute to his father, MGK wrote a touching caption on an Instagram post dedicated to his dad in July 2020. He wrote, “i had plans for the one-year anniversary of Hotel Diablo today… that album was everything i wanted to say and i know it’s close to my fans…”

“But my father took his last breath this morning, and ive never felt a pain this deep in my life. i’m setting my phone down. love you. thank you guys for everything.”
Megan has been dating MGK since early 2020, just months after first meeting on the set of their movie, “Midnight in the Switchgrass,” co-starring Bruce Willis and Sistine Stallone. And in January 2021, the pair announced their engagement.
“Life in Pink” can now be streamed on Hulu.
