#Socialites, do you agree? Ludacris claims if he were put against JAY-Z in a rhyme writing contest, he would beat Hov, insisting, “In terms of flow, I’m going to kill that sh*t.”

Recently, Atlanta rap legend Ludacris stopped by NFL player-turned-podcaster Cam Newton‘s podcast, ‘Funky Friday.’ During the latest episode, Newton asked Luda what would happen if he was put in a room with Brooklyn icon JAY-Z and they were each given two hours to write a verse.

Luda boasted that he would for sure come out on top as the victor in that situation. He said, “A verse? I would have to say I would win on that one.” Completely shocked and in awe, Newton nearly jumped out of his seat and yelled, “Hovvv?! Tell me… Oooh… Knowing that… If you know who you’re going against and you got two hours, give me some sh*t you would…”

Newton then repeats the scenario and Luda admitted, “I mean that’s a strong statement to say that because Hov is definitely one of my favorites as well.” Ludacris continued to describe how seriously he would take this hypothetical rhyme writing contest with JAY-Z.

He said, “Verses? Man, I’m just going to go in and… Metaphor and style. In terms of flow, I’m going to kill that sh*t. And it’s not to say that Hov is not going to kill that sh*t. But, I’m like when you say sh*t like that and it puts me in a category of, ‘Oh sh*t, I’m going against Hov?’ I got to [go]. Like every f***ing word, every line, every style, every flow, every metaphor — I got to GO!”

Ludacris then mentioned that he was on a song called “I Do It For Hip-Hop” with JAY-Z and fellow NYC rapper Nas (who was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens). The song was featured on his 2008 album ‘Theater of the Mind.’ Luda said, “You gotta go back and listen. There was a song with me, Nas, and Hov on my album called, ‘I Do It For Hip-Hop.’ So dope. It just made me think of that.”

Cam Newton then transitioned to the current climate in Hip-Hop, stating, “I think the competition in the rapping space, now, I wouldn’t say it’s healthy.” Luda chimed in and countered, “It’s about to be, though. You see what’s going on. It’s reinvigorated.” They both agree that the recent Drake and Kendrick Lamar rap battle isn’t necessarily beef but competition.

Newton added, “I think where you’re coming from, it’s a competition. Like, rapping is an art. Rapping is a sport.” Luda repeatedly agreed, “I do. I do.” Newton continued, “I know how some would say, ‘OK, cool. But, I got something to say too. And I’mma make you think a little harder. I’mma make you Rap Genius my sh*t, ’cause you may have missed it.’ Rappers, now, it can get dangerous for no reason. Like, don’t put me on the rap song, you going to end up on a [T-shirt].”

Luda agreed and added, “I mean, it is like that man. I mean, to a degree, you got to understand the way some people are looking at it is you f**king with the money. And if you one of them cats that’s eating off a rapper and somebody is saying something about him that’s intimidating your bag. So, if you’re the shooter, or you one of them n***as, then you might take action before the actual rapper does, who’s looking at it as competition because you taking some food off your plate.”
