LSU champion Angel Reese is calling out a double standard between her and Iowa Hawkeyes player Caitlin Clark, after taunting her in their championship game.
LSU Star Angel Reese Calls Out Double Standard After Trending For ’No Class’ In Caitlin Clark Incident During Championship Game
LSU Lady Tigers star Angel Reese has had one heck of a night after beating the Iowa Hawkeyes in their championship game, where she began trending online for having “no class.”
Reese began trending when she taunted her opponent Caitlin Clark by mimicking Clark’s “You Can’t See Me” tease. Reese shook her hand in front of her own face, before pointing to her own ring finger.
Amid going viral for the incident, Reese and her teammates would go on to beat Iowa, 102-85, and make history at LSU, by winning their first national championship.
Despite the win, Reese was still being called out for her taunting, even though Clark was the first to do the motion days before. During Friday night’s (March 31) national semifinal game, Clark waved off a Louisville player.
While addressing tonight’s incident with ESPN, Reese said, “Caitlin Clark is a hell of a player for sure, but I don’t take disrespect lightly. And she disrespected Alexis and South Carolina, they’re still my SEC girls, too. Y’all are not going to disrespect them either. I wanted to pick her pocket. I had a moment at the end of the game, and I was just in my bag. I was in my moment.”
During her post-game press conference, Reese further suggested there was a double standard being held against her for what she did. Reese said, “I’m happy. All year, I was critiqued about who I was. The narrative – ‘I don’t fit the narrative. I don’t fit the box you all want me to be in. I’m too hood. I’m too ghetto.’ Y’all told me that all year.”
She continued, “But when other people do it, y’all all don’t say nothing. So, this is for the girls that look like me. That’s going to speak up for what they believe in. It’s unapologetically you. And that’s what I did it for tonight. It was bigger than me tonight. It was bigger than me. Twitter is going to go in a rage every time. And, I mean, I’m happy. I feel like I helped grow women’s basketball this year. I’m super happy and excited. I’m looking forward to celebrating and then next season.”
