Here’s some positive news to kick off your Wednesday: In an impactful move, rap star Quavo announced his latest initiative, the “SPARK Grants” program through his Rocket Foundation. This initiative aims to provide vital support to organizations dedicated to reducing gun violence in Atlanta and beyond.
The Rocket Foundation, established by Quavo in 2022 in memory of his late Migos group member and nephew Takeoff, who tragically lost his life to gun violence, is committed to putting an end to such senseless acts in America. Starting its mission in Atlanta, the foundation seeks to advocate for gun control on a national scale.
Through the “SPARK Grants” program, Quavo plans to award $100,000 in total, with $10,000 grants being distributed to 10 deserving organizations in Atlanta, Variety reports.
This big announcement comes following a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris as part of his involvement with the Congressional Black Caucus. Since then, Quavo’s efforts have gained further momentum. The recent launch of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention by the White House underscores the importance of initiatives like the Rocket Foundation in addressing this critical issue.
Expressing his commitment to the cause, Quavo stated, “I am honored to launch this grant program to honor Take and the countless families that have been affected by gun violence,” said Quavo. “The Rocket Foundation will be giving out $100K in SPARK grants to local orgs dedicated to reducing community violence in Atlanta. There is a lot of important work going on in ATL right now, and part of our mission is to uplift these organizations and support them to help save more lives.”
Beginning on March 20, organizations can apply for the grants, with the application deadline set for April 21. The grant recipients will be announced on June 18, coinciding with Takeoff’s birthday and National Gun Violence Awareness Month.
