Glen Sullivan Sr., a 54-year-old Springfield, Louisiana man, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison and to be castrated after raping a 14-year-old girl multiple times and getting her pregnant.

On April 17, the Louisiana man pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree rape and was sentenced to 50 years in prison by Judge William Dykes. As part of a plea deal, the man also agreed to be surgically castrated, as opposed to being chemically castrated. The procedure will be carried out by the Louisiana Department of Corrections as the man serves his 50-year prison sentence.
According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, authorities launched an investigation into the man in July 2022 after the teenager told detectives that he raped her “multiple times” when she was just 14 years old. In addition to the abuse, DNA test results later revealed that the girl got pregnant and that Sullivan was the father.
Subsequently, as per a Louisiana state law passed in 2008, if a sex offender is convicted of certain rape offenses, they may be sentenced to chemical castration using a drug called medroxyprogesterone acetate. The law also states that a male prisoner can be physically castrated as long as he files a written motion with the court showing that he “intelligently and knowingly gives his voluntary consent to physical castration as an alternative to the treatment.” It’s also written into legislation that such procedures must be performed a minimum of one week before a defendant is released.
According to WBRZ, 21st Judicial Assistant District Attorney Brad Cascio spoke on the Louisiana man’s sentencing with castration and said, “I felt that this case was a strong enough case and warranted such action.” Cascio added, “Sex crimes against juveniles are the most malicious crimes we prosecute. I intend on using every tool the legislature is willing to give us, including physical castration, to seek justice for the children in our community.”

21st District Attorney Scott Perrilloux also said that the man not only raped and impregnated the teen victim but also terrorized her into silence by threatening her and her family. Perrilloux said Sullivan had “groomed” the victim and “used threats of violence against her and her family” to keep her silent.
While applauding the victim for speaking her truth, Perrilloux added, “So many of these types of cases go unreported because of fear. The strength it must have taken for this young woman to tell the truth in the face of threats and adversity is truly incredible.”
