Louisiana Judge Who Used N-word Taking Unpaid Leave, Refuses To Resign

The Louisiana judge who use the N-word during the a home surveillance video while referring to a burglar as a roach, has agreed to take unpaid leave following her actions, but refuses to resign.

Lafayette City Court Judge Michelle Odinet is taking “period of leave without pay” after the viral video surfaced showing her family watching surveillance of a failed burglary.

“And Mom’s yelling n—–, n—–,” a male voice says on the video.

“We have a n—–, it’s a n—–, like a roach,” a female replies.

After receiving backlash, the judge claimed she was on a sedative and had no recollection of what she said on the video.

“I have zero recollection of the video and the disturbing language used during it,” Odinet said in a statement. “Anyone who knows me and my husband, knows this is contrary to the way we live our lives. I am deeply sorry and ask for your forgiveness and understanding as my family and I deal with the emotional aftermath of this armed burglary.”

Many have filed complaints to the Louisiana Judiciary Commission starting and want Odinet to recuse herself from cases.

Suspending a Louisiana judge is not an easy process as City judges are elected officials, and they can’t be fired, even with evidence of misconduct.
