LA Rapper Wakko The Kidd & Friend Left In Critical Condition After Targeted Armed Robbery

Los Angeles Police Department officials say the aspiring rapper and his friend were followed home from a studio in Hollywood and robbed at a North Hollywood home on the 11100 block of Califa Street, near the intersection of Vineland Avenue and Oxnard Street.

Local authorities say when the two men arrived to the home, they went to exit their vehicle, but were soon surrounded by a group of suspects, who were all wearing skis masks and wielding guns.

The two men were held up at gunpoint and things escalated after shots were fired, leading to Wakko and his unidentified associate being shot multiple shots before the suspects fled the scene in a white SUV.

When first responders arrived to the scene, they discovered the two wounded men and had them rushed to the hospital and each taken into surgery.

As of Friday afternoon (Sept. 2), both men were out of surgery, but doctors updated that they were both still in critical condition and each needing another operation.

In addition to his rap career, Wakko is also known as the creator of the popular AirHeadz brand of cannabis, which he heavily promotes on social media, along with his flashy diamond necklaces, watches and more.

As mentioned, Wakko’s incident is just one of many in a severe crime wave in Los Angeles. LAPD investigators say things are becoming increasingly dangerous in the city. They even had to form a special task unit to handled what they are labeling as follow-home robberies.

At the moment, the unit is comprised of at least 20 detectives from the Robbery-Homicide departments. As of 2021, there had been more than 100 follow-home robberies reported and investigated.

LAPD Homicide Detective Freddy Arroyo says, “People are targeted because they’re driving a nice car or they have a nice watch on or a nice shopping bag or purse and things like that. It’s unfortunate that’s where we’re at right now, but people are still being targeted for the items that they’re wearing or the jewelry that they wear.”

In addition to Wakko being the latest victim of the follow-home crime wave in LA, legendary music executive Clarence Avant recently lost his wife Jacqueline in a similar shooting after a man named Aariel Maynor targeted her in her own home. He was sentenced to 150 years to life in prison.

Another celebrity, Fashion Nova CEO Richard Saghian, was also targeted in a follow-home armed robbery in LA as well. His incident led to a shootout, fortunately left him alive, four others wounded, and one of the suspects killed.
