Los Angeles County Listed As ‘The Most Dangerous Area’ In America

FEMA has named Los Angeles County the most dangerous area in American due to its vulnerability to different types of natural disasters.

According to FOX LA, the area reached the top spot after FEMA calculated risk for every county in the United States based on their susceptibility to 18 different types of natural disasters. Based on the results, Los Angeles County reached the top spot along with San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Other counties on the list included the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn, Miami, Philadelphia, Dallas, and St. Louis.

The 18 natural disasters listed in the index included coastal flooding, avalanches, hail, heatwave, hurricanes, volcanic movements, tsunami, severe winter weather, drought, tornados, and other hazards.

FEMA created the index in 2016 to help emergency managers plan at the local, regional, state, federal levels to be better prepared for natural hazards and disasters. The top ten safest counties included areas in Loudoun County, Boston, Long Island, Detroit, and Pittsburgh.
