Loretta Devine On Hoodoo, Playing ‘Spell’s’ Villain & Remaining Positive In Today’s Climate

Famed actress Loretta Devine sat down with Hollywood Unlocked to give us all the tea on the upcoming Hoodoo thriller ‘Spell,’ which also stars ‘Power’s’ Omari Hardwick.

‘While flying to his father’s funeral in rural Appalachia, an intense storm causes Marquis (Omari Hardwick) to lose control of the plane carrying him and his family.  He awakens wounded, alone and trapped in Ms. Eloise’s (Loretta Devine) attic, who claims she can nurse him back to health with the Boogity, a Hoodoo figure she has made from his blood and skin. Unable to call for help, Marquis desperately tries to outwit and break free from her dark magic and save his family from a sinister ritual before the rise of the blood moon.’

Loretta sheds light on playing the villain and how the role was different for her, and how the message in the story can definitely relate to what’s going on in the world, and hoping for a positive outcome no matter what.

She gets candid about today’s current climate, but her energy has us feeling positive about a new day, and the fact that we are all going to come as different and life has changed, for the better. Similar to Marquis’ experience in ‘Spell.’
